Red Sox at Giants Lineups: The Yaz Show

And Mauricio Dubon returns, which is the real story.

On the surface, this Red Sox Giants series isn’t really all that interesting. It is a pair of teams who are both out of the playoff chase just playing out the string of the season. There are a lot of series like that right now, and there is understandably not a lot of hype around them. This series is a little different, though, for a few different reasons. First and foremost is, of course, the return of the Yastrzemski name to Fenway. Carl’s grandson Mike is a rookie with the Giants this year and is going to be in the lineup all week, including on Tuesday as the leadoff hitter. The ovation and general feeling around the park when he’s announced to start this game is going to be memorable.

It’s not just Yaz, though. There is also Mauricio Dubon coming to town, which admittedly is a bigger deal to me than to most fans. But I’m the one writing this so I’m going to mention it and not feel bad. He’ll be playing second and hitting ninth for the Giants in this game. More generally, this is also a matchup of the two teams of the decade as the only two clubs to win multiple World Series in this decade. There are also some big names that we don’t get a lot of chances see on a regular basis like Buster Posey, though he’s not starting in this one.

As for the Red Sox, well, the bad news is that Mookie Betts is still down with his foot injury. They found inflammation in the foot, and while they hope he will play again this year it’s not a sure thing. That means we may have already seen his last game in a Red Sox uniform, but I’m not emotionally prepared for that conversation. Meanwhile, Brock Holt gets the start in right with Marco Hernández at second. Nathan Eovaldi is starting.
