Red Sox at Blue Jays Lineups: The one with Clay

The Red Sox have lost five in a row. Let’s cut that out.

The Red Sox have lost five games in a row, and it’s been brutal to watch. These haven’t even really been games in which they’ve played well and just gotten beat. That, we could live with, especially with the playoff chances now totally gone. Instead, they have just played poorly night in and night out, and it has not been fun to watch. It is time to change that, if for no other reason than to bring me back to sanity.

This will be a particularly notable game in terms of recent Red Sox history, as they are going up against Clay Buchholz. The righty, of course, was a long-time member of the organization who was never properly rated by a large chunk of the fanbase. The injury issues were, of course, a major issue. Still, he was a part of two championship teams, albeit only on the margins in 2007. In 2013, though, he was a huge part of the run in the first half where he was perhaps the best pitcher in the American League before he got hurt. He’d come back for the end of the year and the postseason, pitching through obvious injury to gut himself through a World Series win. I am a staunch Clay defender, and I’m excited to relive some Clay memories tonight, at the least.

As for the Red Sox, they start Jhouys Chacín. Offensively, Rafael Devers and Christian Vázquez get days off. In their place, Brock Holt starts at the hot corner while Juan Centeno will be behind the plate.
