Pawtucket W 4-3
Marco Hernandez, SS: 0-4, 3 K
Chris Owings, LF: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 BB, 2 R, 2 RBI
Bobby Dalbec, DH: 1-3, 1 BB
Josh Ockimey, 1B: 1-3, 1 HR, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 K
Josh Smith: 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 6 K (89 pitches)
Mike Shawaryn: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 K (24 pitches)
Ryan Brasier: 0.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K (8 pitches)
Colten Brewer: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K (13 pitches)
Trevor Kelley: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K (19 pitches)
There has been a lot made this year about how there is only one trade deadline and no deals can be made until the season is over. That is mostly true, though not entirely. Teams can still trade players on minor-league deals, which means that Boston could try to get something for Owings this month. The utility man had another huge day to bring his OPS back up to .996. I’m not sure how interested teams would even be and whatever they got back would be a lottery ticket at best, but it could be an interesting story to watch for if a contender suffers and injury and needs some depth for their lineup.
Portland W 9-0
Jarren Duran, CF: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI
Marcus Wilson, RF/CF: 1-5, 1 2B, 2 K
C.J. Chatham, SS: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI
Joey Curletta, 1B: 2-3, 1 HR, 2 BB, 3 R, 1 RBI, 1 K
Luke Tendler, LF: 3-5, 1 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI
Michael Osinski, 3B: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K
Brett Netzer, 2B: 2-4, 2 RBI, 1 CS
Charlie Madden, C: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K
Konner Wade: 7 IP 5 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K (87 pitches)
Jenrry Mejia: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K (12 pitches)
Well then. This was total domination for the Sea Dogs, though they didn’t really break things open until late as their lead was only 2-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth. They’d score seven in the next three innings, though, to pull away. There’s a lot going on in those lines above, but what stands out to me is Duran’s homer. It wasn’t a huge game for the center fielder and he did leave in the eighth — there’s no indication it was an injury substitution — but this was his first homer in Double-A. Power isn’t a big part of his game, but he has to have some if he’s going to reach his ceiling.
Salem W 4-2
Ryan Fitzgerald, SS: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K
Devlin Granberg, 1B: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 2 K
Pedro Castellanos, RF: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 K
Keith Curcio, CF: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI
Tanner Nishioka, DH: 2-3, 1 R, 1 RBI
Andrew Politi: 3.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K (57 pitches)
Logan Browning: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K (6 pitches)
A couple of guys very new to the roster appeared in this one, with Granberg making his High-A debut and Browning snagging his second appearance at the level. Salem is getting wins, but it helps that they have some relatively exciting players joining the roster, too.
Greenville L 5-12
Everlouis Lozada, DH: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 BB, 2 R, 1 RBI
Tyler Esplin, RF: 2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K
Triston Casas, 1B: 0-4, 1 K
Kole Cottam, C: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 RBI
Brandon Howlett, 3B: 0-4, 1 RBI, 2 K
Chris Machamer: 3.1 IP, 11 H, 8 R, 3 BB, 3 K (80 pitches)
There were some bright spots for the offense today, particularly with Lozada at the top of the order, but the poor pitching was the story. It was an absolutely brutal night for Machamer, the team’s 16th round pick last summer. He had an impressive first month of the season but things have fallen way off since then. He’s allowed a total of 15 runs over his last three starts in just 12 2⁄3 innings.
Lowell L 1-3
Stephen Scott, DH: 1-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 3 K
Cameron Cannon, 2B: 2-5, 1 K
Nick Decker, RF: 1-4, 1 BB, 3 K
Nicholas Northcut, 3B: 1-3, 1 BB
Jonathan Diaz, C: 2-4, 1 K
Kervin Suarez, CF: 2-4, 1 3B, 1 R, 1 CS
It’s been a rough go for the Spinners offense of late. I’ve really got nothing on this one.
DSL 1 L 0-3
Eduardo Lopez, CF: 0-4, 1 K
DSL 2 W 17-2
Axel James, DH: 4-6, 2 3B, 3 R, 3 RBI, 1 SB

Luis Mota, 3B: 3-4, 2 BB, 2 R
Angeudis Santos, SS: 2-4, 2 BB, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 SB
