Greenville W 4-3
Tyler Esplin, RF: 0-4, 3 K
Triston Casas, 1B: 1-2, 1 BB, 1 R
Devlin Granberg, DH: 1-3, 1 2B, 2 RBI
Kole Cottam, C: 0-3, 2 K
Brandon Howlett, 3B: 0-3, 2 K
Cole Brannen, CF: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI
Brayan Bello: 4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 3 K (86 pitches)
Alex Demchak: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K (18 pitches)
This was a nice, close victory for the Drive who scored two runs in each of the first two innings before letting the pitching do the rest of the work. The most surprising part of this game, though, was the long ball from Brannen. A second round pick in 2017, the center fielder has just not been able to find his footing as a pro. He is now 201 games and 770 at bats into his career. This was his first career home run.
Lowell L 1-3
Gilberto Jimenez, CF: 0-5, 3 K
Cameron Cannon, SS: 3-5, 1 2B
Stephen Scott, 1B; 1-3, 1 2B, 2 BB, 1 R, 1 K
Jaxx Groshans, C: 1-5
Alex Erro, 3B: 2-4, 1 RBI
Nick Decker, RF: 0-2, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 SB, 1 CS
Noah Song: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K (27 pitches)
Yusniel Padron-Artilles: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 9 K (88 pitches)
Jenrry Mejia: 0.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 0 K (13 pitches)
The bullpen ended up blowing this game for the Spinners, but holy cow did those first two guys put on a show. It’s not clear what’s going to happen with Song yet, but as of now it still looks as though he’ll be fulfilling his military obligations for two years starting this November. Hopefully he can pick up where he’s leaving off, because he looks great in a small sample to start his pro career. Padron-Artilles, meanwhile, has been absurd with Lowell this year. After a rough stint in Greenville to start the year, he has 54 innings with the Spinners with a 2.00 ERA and 69 strikeouts to go with 13 walks.
