What a difference a week makes! We know the story the team takes two of three in Tampa followed by three of four at home vs the Yankees. All of us in Red Sox nation were riding high. The team was then expected to add a substantial piece heading into the ONLY trade deadline of year. Unfortunately for the team and my sanity Dave Dombrowski decided the division race was over, the one game play in was too much of a crap shoot, and he didn’t like the prices so he did nothing. Do I know to what degree this affected the team? No. No one outside of that locker room could have even have an idea, and even those inside of it would probably have trouble quantifying to what degree this emotional letdown hurt the team. What we do know is the Red Sox have not won a baseball game since this non-action and their free fall has them a long shot for the playoffs. Perhaps it wasn’t Dombrowski’s intention to torpedo any hopes the Red Sox had for the post season, but here we are. This show is our change to rage and rail and complain. We did so.
