Red Sox at Yankees Lineups: The battle of the dads

Both starting pitchers are fresh off paternity leave.

The Red Sox have now lost seven in a row and are mired in their worst stretch of baseball in years. They are quickly running out of time for things to turn around, too, as the calendar has flipped around to August with the team now a full six games out of a playoff spot as we speak. Hope is not lost, but it is dwindling with each and every loss.

They will look to turn things around on Sunday Night Baseball in the Bronx, now more thana week removed from their last victory. They’ll have David Price on the mound for this one, with the veteran fresh off some time away from the team on paternity leave. It’s been a struggle for Price of late after he was the team’s best starter for the first few months of the year. He needs to find some confidence in offerings besides his fastball, as this was a trap he fell into early last season that led to similarly distressing results. It’s obviously not going to be an easy matchup for him in Yankee Stadium, though this isn’t quite the offense we’ve seen the rest of the series. New York lost Edwin Encarnación earlier in the series and on Saturday they placed Aaron Hicks on the injured list. The result is a lineup that is not filled with the intimidating names we’re used to in pinstripes, though we’ve seen all year that the Yankees have been able to survive just fine with a depleted lineup.

On the Red Sox side, they are going up against another veteran lefty who is just rejoining his team after paternity leave. J.A. Happ takes the mound for the Yankees in what’s been a disappointing year. The southpaw has traditionally beaten up on the Red Sox, and this year Boston has scored just four runs over two stars and 11 13 innings against Happ. They’ll send out a normal lineup against the lefty, with Sam Travis at first and hitting fifth while Michael Chavis bats eighth and plays second.
