Patucket PPD
Portland L 2-7
Jarren Duran, CF: 1-4, 1 R, 3 K
Tommy Joseph, 1B: 2-3, 2 RBI
I.....have nothing on this one. Rough game all-around for the Sea Dogs in Binghamton with Joseph having the only multi-hit game of the year. The former major leaguer is getting plenty of hits with Portland with a .314 batting average in nine games but the power hasn’t really come in the small sample.
Salem L 3-12
Devlin Granberg, LF: 1-4
Kole Cottam, 1B: 0-4
Michael Osinski, 3B: 3-4, 2 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 E
Elih Marrero, C: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K
Joan Martinez: 1.2 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 3 K (27 pitches)
For the first few months of the year it really looked as though Martinez had turned a corner. The righty was looking like he did when he first emerged a couple years ago and had people excited heading into the 2018 season. Then, he got hurt over the summer and just hasn’t been the same since. This outing would go a long way towards ruining anyone’s line, but his ERA has jumped over two runs in two months and he’s allowed runs in nine of his last 15 appearances.
Greenville L 2-5
Tyler Esplin RF: 0-4, 2 K
Triston Casas, 1B: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K
Kervin Suarez, CF: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K
Alex Scherff: 4 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K (93 pitches)
I have no idea what to do with Scherff at this point. No player, and pitcher in particular, should only be judged by the statline, but generally we can get a decent look at how a year has been from the statline. Scherff is an exception to that. He’s been a wild rollercoaster all year with just about every kind of start, and this latest is a microcosm. Only one of four runs was earned, he struck out over a batter per inning and had a 5:1 K:BB ratio. He also allowed eight hits in four innings and threw 93 pitches. I have no idea.
