Red Sox at Padres Lineups: Running it back

The Red Sox use the same lineup as they look for another win in San Diego.

The Red Sox are coming off perhaps their most complete win of the season on Friday. Perhaps most notable was the offense, which put up a relentless attack against Chris Paddack en route to eleven runs. That was, of course, led by two homers and seven RBI from J.D. Martinez. The key to the performance from the lineup was their ability to punish fastballs, and they’ll have a chance at a repeat performance on Saturday. Alex Cora is sending out the same eight guys in the same order for this game, with Mitch Moreland at first, Brock Holt at second, Martinez in right and Mookie Betts in center. They are going up against a guy in Dinelson Lamet who, like Paddack, has a big fastball of which he’ll throw plenty in this start.

The one difference for Boston in this game is going to be the pitcher, obviously. Eduardo Rodriguez was phenomenal on Friday, and now Nathan Eovaldi is looking to recover from a brutal start against the Orioles his last time out. The righty has been unable to consistently find his command since returning from the injured list, whether it be as a reliever or as a starter. This would be a nice time to find that for the stretch run. That said, the Red Sox only needed to use Josh Smith out of the bullpen on Friday so they have the fresh arms to make it through another short Eovaldi outing if it comes to this.
