Pawtucket L 1-11
Cole Sturgeon, LF/P: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 K
C.J. Chatham, SS: 1-5, 1 2B, 2 K
Rusney Castillo, RF: 1-4
Bobby Dalbec, 1B: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 K
Tzu-Wei Lin, 2B: 0-4, 2 K
Bobby Poyner: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K (25 pitches)
Hector Velázquez: 2 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 3 K (42 pitches)
Cole Sturgeon: 1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 0 K (35 pitches)
Yikes. This was a total disaster of a game for the PawSox, who had to use Sturgeon on the mound to get through the final inning after starter Erasmo Ramírez allowed seven runs while recording only four outs. For all of the bad in this game, I want to look a little at Lin, who is just not having a good run here lately. Since the start of July, not even including this game, the infielder has hit just .230/.289/.319. Lin was seen as the presumed Brock Holt replacement if the latter was to walk this coming offseason, but now he’s been passed by Marco Hernández, and possibly others.
Portland L 7-8 (F/10)
Jarren Duran, CF: 1-5, 2 RBI
Marcus Wilson, RF: 1-5, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K
Tommy Joseph, DH: 2-5, 1 2B, 2 R, 2 K
Joey Curletta, 1B: 1-5, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI, 2 K
Brett Netzer, 2B: 2-5, 1 RBI, 3 K
This was a tough loss for the Sea Dogs, but to no fault of the offense who scored seven runs and smacked eleven hits on the day. Joseph had himself a nice game as he looks to finish this year strong in hopes of getting himself another shot at a major-league roster spot — whether it be in Boston or elsewhere — next spring. Meanwhile, Wilson continues to look much better in this stint with Portland and should be on the major-league doorstep as a fourth or fifth outfielder at some point next season.
Lowell W 7-3
Gilberto Jimenez, CF: 2-4, 1 BB, 2 R, 2 SB
Jaxx Groshans, C: 1-5, 1 HR, 1 R, 3 RBI
Cameron Cannon, 2B: 0-4, 1 BB
Joe Davis, DH: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI
Nick Decker, RF: 0-4, 3 L
Stephen Scott, 1B: 1-3, 1 RBI
Antoni Flores, SS: 0-3, 1 BB, 2 K
Wil Dalton, LF: 2-4, 1 3B, 1 R, 2 K
Ho hum, another two-hit game for Jimenez, who also threw a pair of stolen bases on top of that. He now has swiped eleven bags on the year in 50 games, a 36-steal pace over 150 games played. The outfielder has just been an all-around force this summer. Meanwhile, Davis has also been killing the ball as the 19th round pick out of Houston is now hitting .310/.354/.513.
GCL G1 L 1-4
Dominic D’Alessandro, 1B: 0-3, 1 K
Matthew Lugo, SS: 0-2, 1 BB, 1 K
