Red Sox vs. Yankees Lineup: What’s going on with this team?

With a playoff spot in sight, will the Red Sox be able to win the series in New York?

MLB: Tampa Bay Rays at Boston Red Sox Gregory J. Fisher-USA TODAY Sports

So, the Boston Red Sox have had quite the week huh? From nearly almost sweeping the New York Yankees, to being crushed by the Tampa Bay Rays, this team is truly an enigma.

I honestly don’t know where to begin here. This series is as critical and important as it gets, and Boston MUST come out on top. The Sox are 3.5 games out of a wild card spot and after the series with the Rays, things are looking bleak.

I think the only positive coming into tonight’s opening game against the Yankees, is the fact that Eduardo Rodriguez is 8-1 in his past 11 starts with an 3.03 ERA. Oh, and we can’t forget the struggling James Paxton will be on the mound for New York tonight, so that's a plus ... right?

Anyway, whether you think the Red Sox are doomed and won’t make the playoffs, just remember that this team DOES have the capability to get there ... they just need to start playing up to their potential.

After that wild little rant, here’s Friday night’s starting lineups:
