The Red Sox are on a hot streak heading into this second game against the Orioles, having won their last three including a 9-1 blowout on Friday night. Last night’s game featured an all-around performance, with Rick Porcello allowing only one through six, the bullpen coming through with three stress-free innings and the offense exploding led by Andrew Benintendi. Everything is coming up Red Sox of late, but we know we’ve seen this before only for them to revert back to old habits. They know it is too late in the season for more of that, so look for them to come out strong in this one.
On the mound for Saturday’s game will be Eduardo Rodriguez. It has been, by and large, a big season for Rodriguez, but of late he’s sort of reverting to old habits. Granted, the results have still been there at times but generally it seems he’s getting back into that form of not attacking hitters after he gets ahead. Outside of a couple bats the Orioles aren’t a lineup to be afraid of attacking, so he needs to be aggressive and control this game rather than being a passive participant.
On the other side, well, the offense is just looking for more of the same. There’s not really more to say than that. These guys are, for the most part, clicking and they have a chance to keep it going all weekend. In this game the lineup is mostly the same as what we’ve been seeing. The one change is Brock Holt returning from an absence from the team to mourn the loss of his former junior college coach. He is back with the team this weekend and gets the start at second on Saturday.
