The Red Sox have a chance to take this four-game set against the Angels despite an embarrassing blowout loss on Saturday. They have Andrew Cashner on the mound for this one, who saw firsthand yesterday what can happen if you don’t make good pitches against the Angels lineup. He’s made a lot of bad pitches since coming to the Red Sox and is looking to stabilize this season as he’s almost certain to be hitting free agency this coming winter. That is just a reminder that, even if you believe this Red Sox team is out of it the players still have plenty to play for.
Meanwhile, the Red Sox offense is going up against a young southpaw in Patrick Sandoval, and they have an interesting name at the top of the lineup. With Mookie Betts getting a day off, they have the newest member of the roster in the top spot. That would be Chris Owings, who was called up earlier today and will play second in addition to hitting first. After him the lineup is fairly normal. With Betts out, J.D. Martinez slides into right field and Sam Travis will fill the DH spot. Christian Vázquez will be back behind the plate for this one as well.
