The Over The Monster Podcast: The first half comes to a close

In this episode Keaton and myself look back on the first half that was and assess who performed well and who did not.

MLB: Boston Red Sox at Detroit Tigers Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports

We officially have hit the halfway point in the baseball year. While we already passed game 82 a while back it’s the All-Star break that really separates the season. In this episode Keaton and I spend some substantial time looking at where the Red Sox are in the standings and we compare the team to that of the other teams fighting for the two wild card spots. We also look at the roster of both position players and pitchers and pick an MVP, LVP, and most surprising player from each group. Finally, we get deep into what the team should do to improve leading up to the trade deadline as well as what we think they will do. During this we do discuss some potential trade options, but mostly we discuss the mixed messaging that we as fans have been getting from both John Henry and Dave Dombrowski. There are plenty of reasons for optimism and plenty for pessimism. There is no doubt in my mind that the next three weeks of baseball will be the defining stretch of the season as the Red Sox will have to play 14 straight vs the Yankees and Rays. As I’ve said before it is up to Dombrowski to put this team in the best position to win before those games start.
