The Red Sox offense is rolling right now, which has helped them pick of four wins in their last five games, all against bad teams. The pitching, specifically, the starting pitching, just hasn’t been up to snuff. David Price will look to change that against his former team on Sunday in the final game of the first half. The southpaw has been mostly consistent this year, and since his implosion against the Rangers in the middle of June he’s gotten back on track. Price has a 2.65 ERA over his last three starts with 18 strikeouts and four walks in 17 innings of work. It is worth noting, though, that all four of those walks came in his last outing against the Blue Jays. That is extremely uncharacteristic, and look for the lefty to work much more in the zone against a bad Tigers lineup.
On the other end, the Red Sox offense should have plenty of opportunity to stay hot against a subpar lefty in Gregory Soto. They already saw him briefly for a relief appearance on Friday, and now the rookie takes the mound for a start. Soto has pitched to an 8.06 ERA on the season with almost as many walks as strikeouts, so look for the Red Sox to make him come in the zone where they can crush him. They’ve gotten off to good starts over the course of this mini-hot streak, and that will be a key once again on Sunday. As far as the personnel, it’s mostly a normal lineup heading into the four-day vacation (for non-All Stars). The one change is Marco Hernandez taking over for Brock Holt at second base for this one.
