The Red Sox have won a couple games in a row and three of four, and are looking to build this hot streak a little more before the break. They’ll have Rick Porcello on the mound for this one as the righty goes up against his former team in his former stomping grounds. He has been struggling a lot lately, and could use this kind of game against subpar competition to get back on track. Of course, he still needs to execute no matter who he’s facing.
On the other side, the Red Sox offense has its own chance for a big game against Jordan Zimmermann. The big news in this one is that Andrew Benintendi is back after getting some time off to become more hitterish, whatever that means. He’s being thrown back into the fire, too, batting cleanup. Meanwhile, J.D. Martinez is out with Christian Vazquez at DH while Xander Bogaerts gets the day too with Brock Holt at shortstop. It’s a weird lineup!
