Red Sox Minor Lines: The system gets swept

A tough day for the farm.

Pawtucket L 10-13

Gorkys Hernández, CF: 3-6, 1 HR, 2 R, 3 RBI

Marco Hernandez, 2B: 2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K

Chris Owings, 3B: 2-5, 1 R, 1 K

Jantzen Witte, 1B: 3-4, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 SB

Tzu-Wei Lin, LF: 0-4, 1 RBI, 1 K

Bryce Brentz, DH: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI, 2 K

Cole Sturgeon, RF: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 BB, 3 R, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 SB

Tanner Houck: 1.1 I, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 K (31 pitches)

Hector Velázquez: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K (16 pitches)

Travis Lakins: 1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 0 BB, 1 K (20 pitches)

If you like offense, do I have the game for you. This was clearly an absolute slugfest, but one in which Pawtucket was in control for basically the entire game. They jumped out to a 5-0 lead midway through the second and were up 10-9 heading into the eighth. That’s when Lakins came in, and he just clearly didn’t have it. The righty had been pitching well of late with a streak of five consecutive scoreless outings and eight of nine, but he’s now allowed runs in each of his last two. Offensively, it was a team effort but Sturgeon get’s the gold star for going above and beyond in this one.

Portland L 8-11

Jarren Duran, CF: 1-5, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 CS

C.J. Chatham, SS: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 BB

Bobby Dalbec, 1B: 1-4, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 K, 1 E

Joey Curletta, DH: 1-5, 1 2B, 1 R, 2 K

Luke Tendler, LF: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 BB, 2 R, 1 RBI, 2 K, 2 SB

Tate Matheny, RF: 3-5, 1 2B, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 SB

Jeremy Rivera, 3B: 3-5, 1 RBI

Denyi Reyes: 6 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 7 K (97 pitches)

Durbin Feltman: 1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 1 K (23 pitches)

This was a very similar game to Pawtucket’s, with the bullpen just failing to get anything done. After six this was a fairly typical 4-3 game in Portland’s favor, but then all hell broke loose. Harrisburg scored in each of the last three frames for a total of eight runs, and that was enough to give them the win. Feltman was part of the meltdown as he continued his extremely disappointing year. More positively, Reyes was solid for yet another start, with this being his sixth straight quality start and continuing his streak of going at least six innings that dates back to May 24.

Salem L 4-6

Nick Lovullo, 2B: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI

Ryan Fitzgerald, SS: 0-3, 1 R, 1 K

Pedro Castellanos, 1B: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K, 1 CS

Keith Curcio, RF: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI

Victor Acosta, CF: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 CS

Joan Martinez: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K (14 pitches)

After smashing a pair of homers on Saturday, Castellanos came back out on Sunday and added one more to his total. As we talked about in yesterday’s lines, he has had major issued getting his power to translate into games. That hasn’t been the case over the last two games, with his three homers in the last two days more than doubling his total from the previous 97.

Greenville L 1-4

Brandon Howlett, 3B: 0-4, 3 K

Triston Casas, 1B: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 R, 1 K

Devlin Granberg, DH: 0-3

I got nothing on this one. Tough game all around.

Lowell L 2-3

Cameron Cannon, DH: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 K

Stephen Scott, 1B: 0-2, 2 BB, 2 K

Aldo Ramirez: 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 K (74 pitches)

Jenrry Mejia: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 4 K (31 pitches)

This was not exactly the A-lineup for the Spinners, which could be seen with the results. Cannon and Scott did each get on base a couple of times, with both being 2019 draftees. Cannon in particular has been heating up a bit after a very slow start to his career. He’s got a little three game hit streak going.
