Pretty decent game here for Pawtucket, eh? The PawSox offense absolutely exploded here, scoring 17 runs and also overshadowing what was a really solid day from their pitching staff too. A very unlikable part of me wants to focus on Ockimey, who has been struggling mightily in the second half, going 0-6 with four strikeouts. Instead, though, I’ll direct attention to Owings. I’m not sure what his path to the majors looks like right now, but the mid-season minor-league signing is hitting .333/.390/.562 with Pawtucket in his first 28 games. Also, all three relievers in this game threw exactly 17 pitches. I don’t now what to do with this information, but I had to mention it.

This was a good doubleheader for the Sea Dogs, including for Duran. We haven’t talked much about him since his meteoric rise in Salem and subsequent promotion to Portland. He’s struggled since that move, but had a nice 4-6 day on Tuesday. Only time will tell if that can carry over, but these kind of days can often spark good streaks. Meanwhile, Reyes has very quietly been red hot of late. This was his eleventh straight outing of at least six innings, fourth straight with two or fewer runs and second straight without any runs. Back on June 12, his ERA stood at 4.79. Now, five starts later, he is down to a 3.81 ERA on the year.

Salem W 7-0

Garrett Benge, 3B: 0-2, 1 BB, 1 RBI, 1 CS

Ryan Fitzgerald, SS: 0-3, 1 RBI, 1 K

Pedro Castellanos, DH: 1-4, 1 R, 1 K

Edgar Corino, RF: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 R, 3 RBI

Michael Osinski, 1B: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 BB, 2 R, 1 RBI

Nick Lovullo, 2B: 2-3, 1 RBI

Dylan Thompson: 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K (85 pitches)

Zach Schellenger: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K (14 pitches)

Salem is not the most exciting roster in the system right now, but they can still put together these kinds of games. This one was highlighted by a pair of journeymen in Corcino and Thompson. The former is a 27-year-old who was a free agent until late May but now has a .945 OPS while the latter is a 26-year-old who was signed in mid-May and has an ERA just under 6.00 on the year. Salem!

Lowell L 0-9

Gilberto Jimenez, CF: 3-4, 1 K, 1 CS

Cameron Cannn, SS: 0-4, 2 K

Stephen Scott, 1B: 0-4, 1 K

Jaxx Groshans, C: 0-4, 1 K

Nick Decker, RF: 0-3, 1 K

Antoni Flores, SS: 1-3, 1 K

The Spinners have a lot of talent on their roster, as we’ve discussed many times this year. They also have a lot of raw talent and young players, which leads to wild inconsistency. It is to be expected and not a real concern, but can be frustrating on a day-to-day basis. The good news is Jimenez has been largely immune to that thus far this year. With this latest three-hit day he is hitting .367 with an .848 OPS this year.
