It was a tale of two games for Salem in this doubleheader. The first game was mostly a disaster, but the second game saw a few big swings including a couple from Madden to really make the difference. It’s been a tough year for the catcher who was drafted in 2017 and he’s likely an organizational piece who won’t make it too far up the ladder, but baseball is a weird game. Sometimes, even the Charlie Maddens of the world can carry a team in a game. That’s why baseball is the best, right?
Lowell PPD
GCL W 5-1
Dominic D’Alessandro, 1B: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K
Danny Diaz, 3B: 0-4, 3 K
Matthew Lugo, SS: 1-1, 2 BB, 1 E
Bramdon Perez, LF/RF: 2-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 K
Jorge Rodriguez: 5 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
I haven’t written up any GCL games in a bit, partially out of time constraints and partially out of a lack of interesting things to say. One developing story here, though, has been the struggles for Diaz. After getting off to a scorching start, the former top international prospect has been brutal. He hasn’t had a multi-hit game since July 9 and he’s now just hitting .192/.232/.308 on the year. More positively, 2019 draftees Lugo and D’Alessandro are performing well.
