Red Sox vs. Blue Jays Lineups: Andrew Cashner makes his debut

It’s something of a big night for the Red Sox on Tuesday, as the newest member of their organization is making his debut for the team. Andrew Cashner, acquired over the weekend in a trade with the Orioles, is on the mound for Boston in their second game of a four-game set against the Blue Jays. Cashner was not brought in to be a savior, but the Red Sox do need a solid performance tonight. The bullpen, as has been the case all year, has been worked a ton of late and they need some innings. That, in essence, is the biggest job for Cashner moving forward. Boston has gotten next to nothing from the fifth spot in their rotation since Nathan Eovaldi went down, both in terms of performance and length. Cashner is a major upgrade over that on paper, and he needs to be in reality as well. He’ll have a relatively easy matchup to start his Red Sox career off on the right foot.

On the other end, the Red Sox are going up against Jacob Waguespack. The 25-year-old righty has only made two appearances in the majors this year, allowing six runs (five earned) over nine innings of work. The Red Sox did see him in one of those two appearances, scoring three runs over five innings earlier this month. They’ll look to repeat what they did against Trent Thornton and company on Monday, and they’ll have an almost identical lineup in that quest. The one change is that Christian Vázquez will be behind the plate instead of Sandy León.
