The Red Sox are coming off a horrible performance on Saturday, but they can still pick up a series victory if they can win on Sunday. It’ll be the primetime, ESPN game this week with a pitching matchup worthy of that title. For Boston, it’s David Price taking the mound. With Chris Sale being, well, not really Chris Sale this year, Price has taken over as the clear staff ace for 2019. That could change at any time, but the veteran lefty has been consistent all year. He’s also served as a stopper of sorts time and again, and while this isn’t really that kind of situation with there being no losing streak to stop, Price is still coming in for a big game here. The last time he saw the Dodgers, of course, he was dominating in what was arguably a performance that should have earned him a World Series MVP nod.
On the other side, the Dodgers have Hyun-Jin Ryu on the mound. The lefty last started this past Tuesday as the National League’s starter in the All-Star Game. When healthy, Ryu has been one of the best pitchers in all of baseball since the start of last season. He has a 1.73 ERA in 17 starts this season and a 1.83 ERA since the start of last season over 32 starts. Among the 144 pitchers with at least 150 innings since the start of last season, Ryu’s ERA is tops in baseball while he ranks sixth in FIP and first in walk rate. It’s going to be a tough time for the Red Sox offense, is what I’m saying. To face him, it’s a mostly normal lineup. Christian Vázquez is back behind the plate and batting fifth, while Eduardo Núñez gets the start at second base batting ninth.
