Red Sox Minor Lines: Doubleheaders galore

Pawtucket G1 L 3-4

Tzu-Wei Lin, SS: 0-2, 1 RBI

Chris Owings, 2B: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K

Rusney Castilo, DH: 0-2, 1 BB, 1 K

Sam Travis, LF: 1-3

Josh Ockimey, 1B: 0-2

Jantzen Witte, 3B: 2-2, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 R

Erasmo Ramírez: 7 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 4 K (92 pitches)

Pawtucket G2 W 6-2

Chris Owings, 3B: 1-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K

Jantzen Witte, DH: 2-3, 1 R, 1 RBI

Sam Travis, LF: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 K

Bryce Brentz, RF: 0-2, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI 1 K

Tzu-Wei Lin, SS: 0-3, 1 K

Josh Ockimey, 1B: 0-2, 1 BB, 1 K

Darwinzon Hernandez; 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K (13 pitches)

Bobby Poyner: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K (28 pitches)

Mitch Moreland was supposed to go on Friday as part of his rehab assignment, but was scratched before the first game. He apparently told the coaching staff after warm ups that he was not feeling good, but I’m not sure if that means he was sick or if his leg injury was acting up again. Meanwhile, Hernandez has been flawless in his short time out of the bullpen. This makes three straight perfect appearances for the lefty with five strikeouts in 3 13 innings. That’ll do.

Portland G1 L 0-2

Jarren Duran, CF: 1-3, 1 K, 1 SB

C.J. Chatham, SS: 0-3, 2 K

Bobby Dalbec, 3B: 0-1, 1 BB, 1 K

Joey Curletta, DH: 0-3, 2 K

Tanner Houck: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K (15 pitches)

Portland G2 L 0-5

Jarren Duran, CF: 1-3, 1 K, 1 SB

C.J. Chatham, SS: 0-2

Bobby Dalbec, 3B: 1-3, 1 2B

Joey Curletta, 1B: 1-2, 1 BB, 1 K

Kutter Crawford: 2.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 4 BB, 2 K (56 pitches)

Eduardo Bazardo: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K (32 pitches)

Durbin Feltman: 1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 2 K (29 pitches)

What a brutal doubleheader for the Sea Dogs, who couldn’t get a single run across the plate over 14 innings of baseball. They did get Houck in his first relief appearance of the year, but that will also be his last with Portland as he was promoted to Pawtucket after these games were complete. In less positive news, it was yet another rough day for Feltman, who gave up a couple singles and a homer.

Salem G1 L 1-2 (F/8)

Pedro Castellanos, 1B: 0-3, 1 K

Ryan Fitzgerald, SS: 0-3, 3 K

Marcus Wilson, CF: 1-3, 1 R, 2 K

Jhonathan Diaz: 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 9 K (89 pitches)

Joan Martinez: 1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K (14 pitches)

Salem G2 W 1-0

Pedro Castellanos, 1B: 0-3, 2 K

Ryan Fitzgerald, SS: 1-3, 1 R, 1 K

Marcus Wilson, RF: 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 CS

It was a low-scoring doubleheader in Wilmington, with Salem coming very close to a clean sweep. Martinez was the difference between the split and a sweep, as the reliever blew the first game in the eighth. The righty has been very good for most of the year, but he’s scuffling of late with runs allowed in each of his last three appearances.

Greenville L 4-5

Cole Brannen, CF: 1-5, 1 RBI, 2 K

Tyler Esplin, RF: 1-3, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 E

Devlin Granberg, 1B: 2-5, 2 K

Triston Casas, 3B: 0-4, 3

Brandon Howlett, DH: 1-4, 1 2B, 3 K

Tyler Dearden, LF: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI

Everlouis Lozada: 2-4, 2 2B, 1 R, 1 K

Grant Williams, SS: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K

Tough day for Greenville, who did mount a comeback late in this game but couldn’t get the final run to at least push extra innings. It’s notable here that Howlett has been back for three games after sitting for a week straight, but something still seemingly isn’t right. He’s played DH in all three of those games with Casas getting all the time at the hot corner. It’s a trend to monitor.

Lowell W 5-2

Gilbert Jimenez, CF: 3-5, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K

Jaxx Groshans, C: 2-4, 1 BB, 2 RBI

Nicholas Northcut, 3B: 2-5, 3 K, 1 SB

Antoni Flores, SS: 2-3, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 CS

Xavier LeGrant, 1B: 3-4, 1 2B, 2 R

Jimenez just can’t stop hitting. After his latest three-hit outburst the outfielder is now hitting .376/.409/.482 on the year. That works!

GCL L 3-8

Ceddanne Rafaela, 2B/SS: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 3 RBI, 1 K

Cameron Cannon, SS: 0-4, 2 K, 2 E

Danny Diaz, 3B: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 K, 1 E

Dominic D’Alessandro, 1B: 0-2, 2 BB, 1 E

Matthew Lugo, DH: 1-4, 2 K

Yoelvis Guedez: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K

It was a tough day for the GCL squad, who fell behind 6-0 in the third and never recovered. Cannon was back in the lineup and back at shortstop, and he had a particularly brutal day. This year’s first round pick not only had another 0-fer with a couple strikeouts, but made a couple of errors as well. He’s in an interesting spot defensively with Diaz getting most of the reps at third. I suspect we’ll see Cannon DH a fair amount this year as well with Lugo needing some reps at shortstop.

DSL 1 L 2-7

Brainer Bonaci, SS: 2-4, 1 2B

Eduardo Lopez, CF: 1-4, 1 R, 1 SB

DSL 2 L 3-4

Elio Prado, CF: 3-4, 1 BB, 1 R

Efren Diaz: 3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 5 K
