Red Sox select Stephen Scott with their tenth round pick

MLB: Spring Training-Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Red Sox have finished the second day of their 2019 draft, and they’ve made it all college players in rounds three through ten. They’ve finished the day with a second consecutive senior draftee, taking Stephen Scott out of Vanderbilt. He has caught in the past, but he’s mainly an outfielder and first baseman now. Scott was not ranked by either Baseball America or Fangraphs heading into the draft.

There’s not a whole lot of information on the Vanderbilt product, though the top of his player page on Vandy’s website has raving quotes from Scott’s coach. So, he’s probably a high makeup guy. Scott produced at a very high level this year, too, hitting .335/.456/.579 in 60 games and 221 plate appearances. The Red Sox are also listed as his favorite team on Vady’s site, which is pretty neat.
