Red Sox vs. Yankees Lineups: Let’s try to avoid a six-run top of the first

The Red Sox look to split this first-ever London series.

The Red Sox and Yankees played a wild baseball game in London on Saturday, but Boston couldn’t come out in front. Despite giving up a whopping 17 runs, the Red Sox actually had a chance to at least tie the game late with the bases loaded and Marco Hernandez at the plate. They couldn’t get it done, but that game did serve to remind us how hard it is for pitchers in this park. Eduardo Rodriguez will be tasked with trying to navigate the small dimensions combined with high humidity. It also doesn’t help that the Yankees have a decent amount of right-handed talent in their lineup. On that front, they will be without one of their best right-handed bats as Luke Voit went down with an injury running the bases on Saturday. He’ll be off today with D.J. LeMahieu shifting over to first base and Gio Urshela playing third.

On the Red Sox side, it’s a mostly normal lineup, though it is without Andrew Benintendi. The outfielder missed a couple of games prior to this series but returned on Saturday. He struggled in that one and never really looked comfortable at the plate. It’s unclear how much of this benching is about his physical well-being and how much is that the Yankees are starting a lefty in Stephen Tarpley and have a couple of lefties in CC Sabthia and J.A. Happ available out of the bullpen to give length if needed. To that point, we also have Eduardo Núñez at second base for Brock Holt because that platoon is apparently still a thing. The full lineups are below.
