Red Sox Minor Lines: Brandon Howlett stays hot

And rain gets in the way at three levels

Pawtucket PPD

Portland PPD

Salem W 3-2 (F/10)

Pedro Castellanos, 1B: 1-5, 1 K

Ryan Fitzgerald, SS: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 BB, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 K

Marcus Wilson, CF: 2-4, 2 2B, 2 K, 1 CS

Daniel Gonzalez: 8 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 7 K (98 pitches)

Zach Schellenger: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K (15 pitches)

Rio Gomez: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K (22 pitches)

It was an exciting kind of day for Salem, who tied the game in the eighth before walking it off in the tenth with Fitzgerald scoring the winning run. Speaking of the shortstop, it’s been a surprisingly good year for the Indy League singee, but power isn’t really part of his game. The home run he hit on Tuesday, which tied the game in the fourth, was actually his first of the year. Elsewhere, Gonzalez had a hell of a day on the mound, as did the bullpen, and Wilson continues to show he wants to get back up to Double-A.

Greenville G1 W 11-8

Cole Brannen, CF: 0-3, 2 BB, 1 K, 2 SB

Devlin Granberg, DH: 0-4, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 K

Triston Casas, 1B: 1-4, 1 3B, 1 BB, 2 R, 1 RBI, 2 K

Kole Cottam, C: 2-3, 1 2B, 2 BB, 2 R, 2 RBI

Brandon Howlett, 3B: 2-4, 1 HR, 3 R, 3 RBI, 1 K

Jonathan Ortega, 2B: 3-5, 1 HR, 1 R, 3 RBI, 1 K

Brayan Bello: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K (20 pitches)

Greenville G2 W 12-3

Everlouis Lozada, 2B: 3-4, 2 2B, 2 R, 1 RBI

Devlin Granberg, 1B: 1-4, 1 3B, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 E

Jordan Wren, CF: 2-4, 1 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 SB

Triston Casas, DH: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI

Alan Marrero, C: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 BB, 1 R, 2 RBI

Brandon Howlett, 3B: 1-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K

Tyler Dearden, LF: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 R, 1 K

Chase Shugart: 7 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 5 K (93 pitches)

It was a nice doubleheader for Greenville, who did play a couple innings of that first game before it was suspended on Monday. That is why Bello only tossed a couple of innings. The offense was clearly the score in both of these games, however, with the Drive scoring a combined 23 runs across 16 innings. It was a nice all-around effort here, but the most encouraging thing is definitely seeing both Casas and Howlett swing hot bats at the same time. On the mound, Shugart had a complete game that was a big overshadowed by the offense, but he now has a 2.31 ERA after getting a late start to his season.

Lowell PPD

GCL L 4-6

Danny Diaz, DH: 0-5, 1 R, 1 K

Trey Ball, LF: 1-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 2 K

Andre Colon, 2B: 0-2, 2 BB, 1 CS

Tough day for the GCL squad though seeing an extra-base hit from Ball is nice in his second game as a hitter. There’s really not much else to say for this one.

DSL 1 W 7-1

Darel Belen, LF: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 BB, 2 R, 1 RBI, 2 K, 1 SB

Eduardo Lopez, CF: 0-5, 1 R, 1 K

Yorberto Mejicano, C: 2-3, 1 BB, 2 RBI

DSL 2 W 4-3

Bryan Gonzalez, DH: 2-3, 1 BB, 2 CS

Naysbel Marcano, C: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI

Frailyn Sanchez: 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K (30 pitches)
