The Red Sox (34-33) look to stay above .500 with a win against the Rangers (35-30) tonight at Fenway Park (7:10 p.m.) behind Darwinzon Hernandez, the team’s number one pitching prospect, who will make his second big league appearance and first start when he toes the rubber tonight. He’ll be faced by someone named Ariel Jurado, which — sure. The problem is that this Red Sox team seems consigned to (extremely) relative mediocrity, and in some ways are the reverse-image Rangers: expensive and barely in the playoff race despite themselves. The Rangers are cheap and having a ball and winning more games than Boston, and while it might not last forever, it’s certainly the case right now. You can’t spell Darwinzon without “winz,” though, so maybe it’s a zign.
