It was a terrifying Sunday for Red Sox fans as news came out that David Ortiz was shot in a club/restaurant in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. Details were sparse for part of the night, but the news has become somewhat clearer in the morning and the good news is Ortiz is expected to make a full recovery. That news comes from his father, via Dionisio Soldevilla.

According to reports, Ortiz was rushed into surgery after the event but the shooting did not affect any organs. Police have said the Red Sox legend was ambushed by a man getting off a motorcycle before 9:00 PM ET on Sunday night at the Dial Bar and Lounge. Dominican National Police Director Ney Aldrian Bautista Almonte says the gunman was beaten by a crowd at the bar.
The Red Sox, meanwhile, offered the following public statement.
