After playing thirteen innings on Wednesday day and nearly going until midnight, the Red Sox and Blue Jays have to turn right around and play again at 12:37 for a getaway day on Thursday. Because of the quick turnaround, we knew things were bound to get a little weird. The Boston lineup is no disappointment. J.D. Martinez remains out as he continues to battle sickness or a sore back or whatever they’re calling it now. For today, Mookie Betts will be the DH with Andrew Benintendi in center, Jackie Bradley Jr. in right and Steve Pearce in left. Sure. Meanwhile, Michael Chavis is at first while also leading off. Oh, and Ryan Weber is getting the start. Let’s get weird.
Also of note, Tyler Thornburg was placed on the 10-day IL before the game with Travis Lakins being re-called. I’ll have a full write up on this later on, but it’s worth mentioning here in the meantime.
Also also, the word “also” autocorrects to Maldonado on my phone for some reason.
The full lineups are below.
