Dear Mother Nature: Sometimes we have issues. Today is not one of those times.
Last night the Sox were seriously about to start someone named Josh A. Smith in the year of someone’s lord 2019. Thankfully such drastic measures are no longer necessary, as David Price will take the mound against the Rays and Charlie Morton this afternoon at Fenway Park (4:05 p.m.). The Rays will be looking to avenge last weekend’s home sweep at the hands of Boston, the final game of which was Price’s last start. He went 5 innings and gave up 2 runs with 10 strikeouts, which is standard-issue stuff for pitchers these days and perfectly serviceable, albeit with room for improvement. Morton has a lot more room for improvement, as the Sox knocked him around for 5 runs over 6 innings a week ago today down in Florida. The lineup’s the same one I think we’re gonna see for a while now when everyone’s healthy and rested. That’s all for today, folks!
