We knew it was probably unlikely the Red Sox would play Monday’s series opener against the Tigers. It’s been raining hard most of the afternoon in Boston, and aside from a break around first pitch forecasts say the water falling from the sky was going to continue to do so for the entire night. As such, rather than trying to squeeze this one in, the Red Sox and Tigers will postpone Monday’s game.

We will not be waiting long for this one to be made up, though, as they have announced a day/night doubleheader for Tuesday.
Red Sox and Tigers will play day-night doubleheader tomorrow. 1:05 and 7:10. Tickets for Monday good for the afternoon.— Chris Cotillo (@ChrisCotillo) April 22, 2019
It’s not going to be super nice or anything on Tuesday, but weather shouldn’t get in the way. Right now they’re calling for overcast with temperatures in the low 50s. This is the first cancellation of the year for the Red Sox, which is somewhat surprising for a northeast team in April.
We’ll keep an eye out to see who will be the 26th player added to the roster for the doubleheader on Tuesday. My guess is Chandler Shepherd, who was scheduled to throw for Pawtucket on Monday before that game got postponed. Sheperd is already on the 40-man roster and would be able to give multiple innings if needed.
