Red Sox at Rays Lineups: Going for the first series win

New, comments

The Red Sox have yet to win a series in 2019. That could change tonight.

The Red Sox are, along with the Miami Marlins, the last team in all of baseball still waiting for their first series victory. It certainly seemed as though the wait would last even longer this weekend, what with Boston heading down to Tampa to face off against the best (record-wise, at least) and hottest team in baseball. Instead, they started to show some signs of life in the lineup and got a strong showing from Eduardo Rodriguez on Friday night and won the series opener. Now, if they can pull off a win on Saturday, they’ll finally have a series win under their belt.

It will be a challenge for them to reach this point, with Rick Porcello taking the mound. The 2016 Cy Young winner has been terrible this season, largely due to wholly uncharacteristic control issues he’s shown on display. There is a chance for some help for the righty this time out, though, with Sandy León back on the roster and getting the start for this game. It’s not a major surprise, of course, given the effusive praise Porcello had for León’s play behind the plate. The assumption was that Chris Sale and Porcello would get León behind the dish for their starts, and that’s how the first turn has gone since the roster move earlier in the week.

As for the rest of the lineup, they’ll be going up against Charlie Morton, who has gotten off to a great start this year. The good news is Boston did get to him a lot in 2018, so hopefully they can repeat that success here. Below are the full lineups.
