UPDATE: Holy shit! The second this piece was filed, the Sox amended the lineup. Your eyes do not deceive you: Christian Vázquez is playing second base.
It’s Marathon Monday in Boston which means a baseball game in the morning (11:05 a.m., NESN, MLB Network out-of-market) and, obviously, a whole lot more for the city of Boston on virtually every level, and for even Major League Baseball, which celebrates Jackie Robinson Day, which means everyone will be wearing number 42, if tradition holds.
Big day.
For our purposes, it means an early slate of lineups before the team decamps to New York for a series against the ailing Yankees. As you can see, Andrew Benintendi finally gets his day off, with Dustin Pedroia batting leadoff and playing second base. Blake Swihart starts in left (!) while Steve Pearce DHs while Jackie Bradley Jr. stays on the shelf with an illness. The Orioles start Dan Straily. The Red Sox start Hector Velázquez. It’s very early. Enjoy the game. Watch out for flying pizza.
