Red Sox at Mariners lineup: Mookie’s back at leadoff

Rick Porcello’s on the mound, while Andrew Benintendi sits for the first time this year.

We’re proud to announce a strategy shift on behalf of the Red Sox, who have not asked us to develop one. We think the Red Sox should score runs before the opponent, then hold the opponent to a lower running total as the game goes on, resulting in victory. The current strategy of “fall behind but maybe come back and win anyway” is exciting when it works and good to spice things up from time to time, but some easy wins would be preferable right now.

Rick Porcello pitches today’s 4 p.m. game and as Matt wrote, it would be nice if he could pitch well, because the bullpen, which isn’t great to begin with, is taxed. The Mariners pitch veteran lefty Wade LeBlanc, about whom I have no thoughts despite his relatively long career. The vault is completely empty.

Andrew Benintendi sits for the first time this year, with Mookie Betts moving into the leadoff spot in another policy I’d like to recommend. If it ain’t broke, etc., and it didn’t look broken last year, but I’m just a cook. With Beni out, J.D. Martinez takes left field while Sam Travis squeezes into the DH spot, batting fifth, one spot ahead of Mitch Moreland, who’s at first. Eduardo Núñez is back at second, so fun will be had.

Edwin Encarnacion sits for the Mariners today, which means Daniel Vogelbach is playing, and he’s the only one about whom I care:
