We are now just a day away from the regular season kicking off in earnest, with the Red Sox having completed their exhibition schedule. As such, it’s time to start projecting the season a bit. If you’ve been here over the last few years, you likely remember our six superlative polls, which will come out over the next three days. If you aren’t familiar, well, it’s not that complicated. We’ll have votes on Team MVP, Best Pitcher, Defensive Wizard, Biggest Surprise, Biggest Disappointment and Unsung Hero. This vote will be for Defensive Wizard.
This is not an easy category for the Red Sox, as they have a handful of outstanding defensive players. They have a stated goal to sweep the Gold Gloves in the outfield, and while it’s certainly a longshot it’s not totally out of the question. They have one of the best defensive second basemen of the last 25 years coming back to hopefully play on a regular basis, a Gold Glover at first base and a guy who’s always had a strong defensive reputation behind the plate. I think this one might be a runaway, but there are enough options that it could be closer than I expect. Make your voice heard and vote in the poll below. If you’re choice is not listed, just drop a note in the comments and I’ll get in and add that choice as soon as I get the chance.
