The Red Sox have their first “real” spring training game on Saturday, taking on the Yankees in their Grapefruit League opener. The pitching plan, from Christopher Smith at Masslive, is as follows: Josh Smith, Marcus Walden, Travis Lakins, Erasmo Ramirez and “some hard thrower we’re going to have from the minor leagues that’s going to shock everybody.” That last part is a quote from Alex Cora, so who knows what that means. Of the pitchers, clearly Lakins is the one to be excited about.
On the position player side, the biggest name in the lineup will be Rafael Devers, who gets the start at DH. Elsewhere, Michael Chavis will move back to the hot corner after subbing in at second base on Friday and Sandy Leon starts behind the plate.
