Happy Monday everyone. It’s something of a big day in the baseball world and for the Red Sox in general as today is the deadline for J.D. Martinez to make his opt out decision. He has
until 5 PM ET to do so apparently it’s by the end of the day, not 5 PM ET. We will also learn of the BBWAA award finalists today. Meanwhile, over in the Premier12 tournament Team USA has a big game against the Dominican Republic today after an 8-2 loss to Mexico on Sunday. Bobby Dalbec hit another home run while Tanner Houck allowed three runs (two earned) with six strikeouts and no walks in 4 1⁄3 innings. If Team USA can get a win against the DR today (first pitch at 8:00 PM ET), they will move on to the next round.
Elsewhere, the Bruins take on the Penguins tonight at 7:30 PM ET. The Tournament of Champions on Jeopardy also starts tonight, something I am very much looking forward to. Use this space to discuss whatever you’d like. As always, just be nice to each other.
Thing I Like Today
I like that the Baseball Prospectus Top 10 prospect lists have started today. I’m not particularly interested in the Orioles list any more than any other random list, but that is not the point here. I have some bias, but I truly believe BP is the best in the business with their prospect coverage, so their list season is always exciting to me. Relatedly, the Red Sox are up next for them on Wednesday.
