The Red Seat: Episode 104-The Slow Winter Continues

The Red Sox remain in the market for a reliever in the slow to develop free agent market.

MLB: Winter Meetings Daniel Clark-USA TODAY Sports

Every year I get excited for the hot stove season, but for the last couple of years it has been barely warm. Key free agents Bryce Harper and Manny Machado remain out on the market and the Red Sox certainly don’t appear to be in on either. It’s clear something is wrong with the current structure of free agency and all of this is likely to be addressed when the current CBA expires. Hopefully it will be solved without costing us any baseball. The Red Sox continue to need to add a reliever and, in my opinion, add depth at second base. They should also sign Grandal, but that is unlikely to happen. How many days is it until pitchers and catchers report? Too many, that’s how many! Spring can’t come soon enough!
