BYE BYE MLB.com and hello OVER-THE-MONSTER

MLB just shut down the comments section on Red Sox threads yesterday or maybe it was the day before. Either way the comments are gone. No more Q&A with Big Dog Browne and no more post-game pow wows and no real big loss with either. It was a platform where fans could interact and the comment section was an amenity but there was never any accountability and that was a recipe for disaster.

Trolls who knew nothing about baseball set up multiple accounts using different emails and just like that 1 troll could replicate himself 10 times (or more). He could post the same trash 10 different ways (as long as it had nothing to do with baseball) and he could like himself 10 times too which I always thought was a little weird but I'll let the experts figure out the psycho-dynamics that motivate someone to be himself 10 times when he's the same jerk every time

The bottom line is MLB was infested with trolls and they were a disease you couldn't get rid of but when the inmates started running the asylum MLB.com just drained the swamp and I understand that but they they threw the baby out with the bath water.

Shutting down the Q&A is one thing. Shutting down the live game thread is a whole different story. On a bad day Red Sox Nation would post over 1000 comments. On a good day they'd post over 4000 and that was a lot of loyal eyeballs with a real sense of community. Bye Bye MLB.com. The way you shut it down without any notification or any warning was real poor form.
