The Red Sox (98-46) begin the push to the playoffs tonight at Fenway Park (7:10 p.m., NESN) when ace and potential Cy Young Award contender Chris Sale (12-4, 1.97 ERA) returns from the DL for a short start against the rebuilding Blue Jays (65-78). Here’s the series preview.

About tonight’s game: It’s sort of a big one! Sale, who came back for one five-inning start earlier in the summer, will look to gradually get back up to speed tonight against a Jays team that’s working in young guys in an otherwise lost season. Nathan Eovaldi is expected to relieve the ace after two innings or 40 pitches. Ryan Borucki (3-4, 4.39 ERA) goes for Toronto.

About Sunday’s game: The Sox almost got swept by the Astros but Mitch Moreland had other ideas, walking them off to salvage a 6-5 win against the champs on Sunday Night Baseball.

Forecast: 75 degrees with a 10 percent chance of rain.

Today’s reading: Jake doubts Sale can pull out the Cy Young campaign, expecting him to fall short yet again.
