The Red Sox (91-42) look to start another winning streak when they face the Marlins (53-80) for game two of this two-game series tonight at Fenway Park (6:35 p.m., NESN).
About today’s game: David Price (14-6, 3.40 ERA), who’s been Chris Sale while Sale is hurt, will look to continue his summer of domination against a team used to being dominated. Price has gone 1-0 with a 1.09 ERA since the All-Star break, and he’ll face off against righty Trevor Richards (3-7, 4.23 ERA), about whom I have nothing more to say.
Mitch Moreland is out of the lineup against the righty, likely for both rest slump-breaking purposes, and Steve Pearce takes his place. Sandy León is back behind the plate, with Blake Swihart heading back to the bench.
About last night’s game: An utterly stupid contest that the bullpen blew twice before the Sox won, 8-7, on a walk-off error. Sure. Read Matt’s recap here.
Forecast: 93 and humid. Dog days!
Today’s reading: I wrote about Worcester’s $101 million gamble in plucking the PawSox. I don’t think it’s going to end well, but it’s not as bad as it could be, which, hooray?
