Red Sox vs. Marlins lineup: Fishing for wins

The Marlins are a sight for sore eyes.

Having been swept for the first time this season, the Red Sox (90-42) return home to face the cellar-dwelling Miami Marlins (53-79) at Fenway Park (7:10 p.m. NESN) in what could be a big bounce-back game now that the Yankees are a “scant” 6.5 games in the rear-view. Read Matt’s series preview here.

About tonight’s game: Brian Johnson (4-3, 4.12 ERA) might bring just what this Red Sox team needs in a non-David Price start: Competence. Thankfully, that’s his specialty. He’ll be matched by José Ureña (4-12, 4.50 ERA), who both gave up a home run on the very first pitch of this season (for any team) and who, today, returns from his flagrant Ronald Acuña-drilling-inspired suspension. There’s just one thing left to do: kick his ass.

The Sox are back to normal, for the most part, with Blake Swihart behind the dish, Ian Kinsler at second base and Mitch Moreland in against the righty.

About Sunday’s game: Why would you even mention a thing like that?

Forecast: I told you that dome was cursed, by the way. They’re back outside tonight, and it’s way too hot. 94 degrees and humid. Drink a lot of whatever you want, but also drink a lot of water.

Today’s reading: Jake argues that Worcester deserves the Red Sox. I agree, and am writing about it tomorrow. “Deserves” does some heavy lifting for both of us, albeit in quite different ways.

A good tweet:
