The Red Sox (89-39) look to split the series with the Indians (73-53) — who they’ll see at least once again this season, and maybe twice — when they clash this afternoon at Fenway Park (1:05 p.m., NESN).
About today’s game: The resurgent, cantankerous David Price (13-6, 3.69 ERA) looks to continue his blistering August against Adam Plutko (4-3, 4.62 ERA), who’s mostly important insofar as he’s not the injured Trevor Bauer. Price is 4-0 with a 1.80 ERA over his last 6 starts. He’d be well-advised to keep that magic rolling against this dangerous Indians lineup, because they’re good.
Eduardo Núñez is back at third and Brock Holt’s at second in the infield rotation, and Sandy León is behind the plate. For Cleveland, Michael Brantley sits ultimately in favor of Melky Cabrera, which is a pick-your-poison situation for Boston anyway. Melky kills lefties even when he’s not tearing us to shreds, which... he is.
About last night’s game: That was more like it. Xander Bogaerts went deep twice, Andrew Benintendi had a three-run double and the Sox never let their figurative feet off the gas pedal in a 10-4 win. Read Matt’s recap here.
Forecast: 76 and sunny. Giddyup.
Today’s listening: On the Red Seat podcast, Jake and Matt remind you that life is good.
