This could be fast. The Red Sox (88-37), the best team by record in Major League Baseball, face the AL Central-leading Cleveland Indians (71-52) tonight as 2016 Cy Young Award winner Rick Porcello (15-5, 4.04 ERA) faces 2014 and 2017 winner Corey Kluber (15-6, 2.68 ERA) tonight at Fenway (7:10 p.m., NESN, MLBN out-of-market). Matt wrote a series preview, as usual, and you can read it here.

About tonight’s game: Porcello, coming off another strong matchup, looks to avoid the single-game blowup that has dogged him this year, mostly against the Blue Jays. Cleveland’s offense features two legitimaute MVP candidates in Jose Ramirez and Francisco Lindor, and the rest of the lineup is solid all the way through. So, too, is Boston’s, but if anyone not named Jalen Beeks is going to shut them down, it’s probably Kluber, who could win his third Cy in five years if Chris Sale’s injury lingers.

Also, some kooky bald dude manages for Cleveland. Couldn’t hack it in Boston, I hear.

About yesterday’s game: The bats didn’t show up and the Sox lost 2-0. Bad bats.

Forecast: An idyllic, hoodie-weather classic of 70 degrees at gametime. Cherish it.

Today’s reading: Over the weekend, Jake compared this team (favorably) to two recent all-time great regular-season clubs: The 1998 Yankees and 2001 Mariners.
