The Red Sox (86-35), who have won 86 friggin’ games already, took to finish off the Phillies (65-53) tonight behind Nathan Eovaldi (5-4, 3.74 ERA) tonight at Citizens Bank Park (7:05 p.m., NESN).
About tonight’s game: Eovaldi looks to overcome his first shaky start as a Red Sox when he faces down the slow-moving Vince Velasquez (8-9, 3.98 ERA) and the Phillies. Velasquez gets a nice surprise: Mookie Betts gets a well-deserved day off, but otherwise the lineup is what’d you’d expect of the team that never loses. Wilson Ramos makes his Philly debut at catcher and bats sixth.
About last night’s game: Good Rick Porcello was back in action, giving up 2 hits over 7 innings with 10 strikeouts to stifle the Phils while Sandy León and Brock Holt contributed solo homers to make it 2-1 Boston in a taut, fast game. I recapped it!
Forecast: 84 degrees and sunny. Whee!
Today’s reading: Matt digs into three early season disappointments turned heroes.
A good tweet:
I was not expecting a Brock Holt pinch hit homer but I guess when you're on track for 207 wins these things happen
