Red Sox at Orioles lineup (Game 1): Can Boston get through the mighty Jimmy Yacobonis?

New, comments

It’s a joke. It’s the rain they have to worry about.

MLB: Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

The Red Sox (82-35) fresh off scoring 19 runs to push back an Orioles (35-81) team that merely scored 12, look to battle Baltimore and Mother Nature this afternoon along the Inner Harbor (1:05 p.m., NESN) in what is scheduled as, and is perhaps unlikely to be, the first game of a doubleheader.

About today’s (first) game: David Price (11-6, 3.98 ERA) who is Good Again, looks to continue his hot streak going against an Orioles team that looked pretty frisky at the dish last night. He won’t face Danny Valencia, who has owned him in the past, because he was DFA’d before the game. Tragic.

Price will be matched by someone named Jimmy Yacabonis (0-0, 7.15 ERA), which is probably the most salient fact about this game, should it happen. The young righty does not seem like a fair match for, say, Mookie Betts, who followed up Thursday’s cycle with a near perfect performance last night. And he’s just the first batter!

About last night’s game: It’s NFL preseason time, so the Sox and Orioles played a 19-12 game just to feel alive. Boston won, of course. Read Matt’s recap here.

Forecast: All of the rain by mid-afternoon but perhaps less of it at 1, so maybe they start on time, stop, start and stop, like they did last time they played in Baltimore. It pissed the Red Sox off! Expect the Orioles to do it again.

Today’s reading: If there’s a Game 2 I’ll drop something here. Pacing myself.
