Red Sox at Orioles Lineups: Can Nathan Eovaldi do it again?

If he does, it’ll be with Dan Butler behind the dish.

MLB: Minnesota Twins at Boston Red Sox Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

The Red Sox are coming off their first loss in seven games, and on Friday they’ll look to avoid making it two in a row. As they try to do just that, they’ll have Nathan Eovaldi on the mound to make his third start in a Red Sox uniform. He has been absolutely incredible in his first two starts, throwing a combined 15 scoreless innings with just one walk. He has been super fun to watch as he pounds the zone with big velocity and a sick cutter that was just incorporated into his repertoire this year. Suffice to say, the new pitch is helping out.

As far as the lineup goes, most of it is the same as it has been, with a few tweaks. The first is that Dan Butler is getting his first start behind the plate for the Red Sox since 2014. The veteran catcher is not someone who we should be getting our hopes up for in terms of offensive production, but he’s a solid presence at the catcher position with plenty of professional experience. Sandy León has been playing a ton lately and this series includes four games in three days, so it was only a matter of time until Butler got himself a start. He’ll likely start the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader, too. Elsewhere, Brock Holt gets the start over Eduardo Núñez at second base, making it seem like Alex Cora is going to split time pretty evenly between those two. At third base, Rafael Devers is back in the lineup after a day off on Thursday. You can see the full lineups below.
