It’s Friday, Friday, (and, yes I’m really doing this on) Friday, and everybody’s ready for the weekend, weekend to begin with Chris Sale (11-4, 2.13 ERA) and the Red Sox (71-33) looking to knock of the Twins (48-53) and snap a two-game losing streak tonight at Fenway Park (7:10 p.m., NESN).
About tonight’s game: Sale, currently second in pitching WAR, per Fangrpaphs, to... oh god, Trevor Bauer? Sorry, it’s still hard to get used to. Anyhow, Sale can pass him tonight with a solid performance, and will likely not be matched pitch-for-pitch by Twins starter Lynn (7-8, 5.23 ERA), who is... not great.
Mitch Moreland is again out of the lineup, even after Alex Cora said he would play today. Something’s up with his knee. Steve Pearce is in his place. Eduardo Núñez is at second, Rafael Devers is at third and Sandy León is behind the plate.
Eduardo Escobar was in the initial Twins lineup amid rumors he had been traded, so obviously things are a bit fluid right now on that side.
About last night’s game: The bats went silent and the Sox fell, 2-1. Blake Swihart got a hit, so apparently he’s good now. Read recovering Blake-stan Jake’s recap here.
Forecast: Thar be lightning storms about. They just knocked out my power! But they passed quickly and it went back to being 85 degrees, which is about what you can expect.
Today’s reading: Jake says Jackie Bradley Jr. is going to win the Gold Glove. I... agree with Jake?
