Red Sox at Orioles lineup: The best team in baseball, the worst team in baseball, and rain (and lots of it)

It’s gonna pour when the Sox face the worst team in baseball.

MLB: Boston Red Sox at Detroit Tigers
Let’s go Beni!
Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports

The Red Sox (70-31) hope to square off against a rudderless Orioles (28-72) team, one that recently traded Manny Machado and finds itself 41.5 games out of first place, when they both battle the elements tonight in Baltimore (7:05 p.m., NESN). Read Matt’s series preview here.

About tonight’s game: Rick Porcello (11-4, 4.13 ERA) makes his first start following the All-Star break after getting certifiably rocked his last time out. The Orioles, combined with the rest, might just be the cure for what ails him, and they’ll send Kevin Gausman (4-7, 4.33 ERA) out there themselves, should the game take place as scheduled.

Mitch Moreland is back, as certain Hall of Famer Steve Pearce takes a seat. Brock Holt’s also back and playing second base.

About yesterday’s game: The bats woke up as the Sox throttled the Tigers behind Chris Sale, 9-1. Read Matt’s recap here.

Forecast: Oh my. Record rainfall is forecast for the area, though there’s only a 30 percent chance of it at gametime. That goes up to about 70 percent by 9 o’clock, so I’m not exactly confident about this one.

Today’s reading: Cody Rivera recaps the Detroit series as the Sox leave Michigan for the last time this year.

A good tweet from yesterday:
