Pawtucket L 3-4
Tony Renda, LF/3B: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 K, 1 CS
Brandon Phillips, 2B: 0-5, 2 K
Rusney Castillo, CF: 2-5, 2 R, 2 SB
Adam Lind, DH: 1-4, 2 K
Sam Travis, 1B: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K
Aneury Tavarez, RF: 2-4
William Cuevas: 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 8 K (91 pitches)
Ty Buttrey: 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 0 K (26 pitches)
It was a hell of a pitching matchup for the PawSox on Thursday with Cuevas taking on former Red Sox prospect Michael Kopech. Cuevas has been good all year in Pawtucket, and with the injuries piling up in the major-league rotation Cuevas could theoretically serve as some key depth in the second half. Also, this was Castillo’s first game in 11 days.
Portland W 10-0
Danny Mars, RF: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI
Josh Ockimey, 1B: 3-3, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 BB, 2 R, 3 RBI
Tate Matheny, CF: 2-5, 1 R
Jhon Nunez, C: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 SB
Deiner Lopez, 2B: 2-4, 1 2B, 2 R, 1 RBI
Teddy Stankiewicz: 8 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K (100 pitches)
Funny story about this game: I bought tickets then totally forgot about it until this morning. Fun! Anyway, it was a great day for the SeaDogs. Ockimey has been struggling for about a week now but had a great game on Thursday and hopefully that can kick him into gear. Stankiewicz also had his bimonthly strong outing. If you’re wondering about Michael Chavis, a sore wrist has kept him out for the last few days.
Salem W 4-1
Brett Netzer, 2B: 1-4, 1 BB, 1 RBI, 1 K
C.J. Chatham, SS: 1-5
Bobby Dalbec, 3B: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K
Roldani Baldwin, C: 0-4, 1 BB, 1 K
Michael Osinski, 1B: 3-4, 1 2B, 2 R
Ryan Scott, LF: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI, 3 K
Darwinzon Hernandez: 5 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 7 K (77 piches)
Joan Martinez: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K (28 pitches)
It was another solid outing for Hernandez, who does seem to be turning things around over the second half of the minor-league season. His strikeout stuff has been showing up, and the control has been there in spurts. He’s among the top prospects I’ll be watching down the stretch.
Greenville W 5-1
Tanner Nishioka, DH: 1-5, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K
Marino Campana, RF: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI
Garrett Benge, 3B: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 BB, 2 R, 1 RBI
Pedro Castellanos, 1B: 2-5, 2 2B, 2 K
Everlouis Lozada, 2B: 2-4, 1 K
Enmanual De Jesus: 7.2 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K (96 pitches)
Devon Fisher: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K (4 pitches)
Durbin Feltman: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K (9 pitches)
It was a really fun day for Greenville who combined to throw their first no-hitter since 2012. De Jesus has been inconsistent for much of the year, though there have been more highs than lows and this was one of those highs. Feltman also had a nice recovery after a relatively rough outing his last time out.
Lowell W 13-7
Jarren Duran, CF: 2-5, 1 3B, 1 BB, 1 R, 3 RBI, 1 K, 1 SB, 1 E
Devlin Granberg, 1B: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 BB, 3 R, 1 SB
Kole Cottam, C: 2-4, 1 BB, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K
Tyler Dearden, RF: 2-4, 1 BB, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 K
Andre Colon, SS: 2-3, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 E
The Spinners have won ten in a row thanks to an all-around performance from the lineup. This roster has had good performances from many guys, but three 2018 draftees in particular have stood out. That would be Duran, Granberg and Cottam, and they all contributed to this win.
GCL L 3-5
Lane Milligan, C: 2-3, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K
Nicholas Northcut, 3B: 3-4, 1 RBI
Austin Glorius: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Glorius had a good outing after a couple of rough ones as he continues his rehab down on the complex. Meanwhile, Milligan and Northcut continue to stand out for the GCL lineup.
DSL 1 L 3-4 (F/6)
Gilberto Jimenez, CF: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 R, 1 SB
Denny Daza, SS: 1-2, 1 BB
DSL 2 L 1-6 (F/7)
Nelfy Abreu, CF: 0-4, 1 K
Luis Hernandez, SS: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 K
Angel Maia, RF: 2-3, 1 BB, 1 K
Oscar Rangel, C: 2-3, 1 R, 1 E
Yulis Hernandez, 2B: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 E, 1 CS
Once again, I have very little to say about the DSL. It rained a lot yesterday.
Player of the Day: There were a lot of good pitching performances today, but Teddy Stankiewicz stood out. The 2013 second round pick has stalled out as a starter in Double-A, and though I’ve always been intrigued by his arm in the bullpen it seems the Red Sox disagree. If they believed he could really make an impact there the shift would have been made by now. Instead, they seem content to allow him to eat minor-league innings, and every once in awhile he’ll have outings like this one.
