Red Sox Minor Lines: Sam Travis goes deep

It was a boring day.

Pawtucket W 2-0

Rusney Castillo, CF: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 SB

Sam Travis, DH: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K

Cole Sturgeon, RF: 2-3, 1 K, 1 SB

Josh Smith: 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K (65 pitches)

It was a great day of pitching for Pawtucket, though no one really notable threw. Trevor Kelley and Fernando Rodriguez each threw two scoreless innings after Smith, for those interested. The most notable part of this game was Travis going deep. It was only his fifth homer of the year, which is a bit disappointing after he remade his swing to bring on more power prior to this season. His OPS sits at only .623 right now.

Portland L 3-4 (F/11)

Jeremy Rivera, SS: 0-4, 1 BB

Chad De La Guerra, 3B: 0-5, 1 K

Jantzen Witte, DH: 2-5, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1

Luke Tendler, LF: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K

Jordan Betts, 1B: 2-5, 3 K

Austin Rei, C: 1-5, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI

Danny Mars, CF: 2-5, 2 K

I was at this game, and while it was pretty exciting it was also incredibly and uncomfortably hot and Mars was probably the most interesting player in the game. That’s not great. Anyway, the homers were cool, the loss was not.

Salem L 1-3

Tyler Hill, DH: 2-3, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 K

Brett Netzer, 2B: 1-4

C.J. Chatham, SS: 1-4, 1 RBI, 2 SB, 1 E

Bobby Dalbec, 3B: 0-3, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 CS

Nick Sciortino, C: 2-4, 1 K

Jake Thompson: 6.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K (97 pitches)

Thompson took the loss in this game, but he certainly did not deserve it in what was perhaps his best outing in what has been a mostly disappointing 2018 season. The 2017 fourth round pick took the loss because of his teammates as an error by Chatham led to a three-run seventh and the offense gave him no support. That doesn’t matter, though, because this is what they’re looking for from the righty.

Greenville L 0-1

Pedro Castellanos, 1B: 1-3, 1 BB

Everlouis Lozada, 2B: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 K

Hildemaro Requena: 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K (81 pitches)

Requena didn’t take the loss like Thompson did, but he did get let down by his teammates in what was an amazing start. It’s been mostly a bad year for the 20-year-old, but this was a great outing.

Lowell L 3-7

Jarren Duran, 2B: 3-5, 1 CS

Cole Brannen, CF: 1-5, 1 R, 1 K, 1 SB

Garrett Benge, 1B: 2-4, 2 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI

Tyler Dearden, LF: 3-4, 1 R, 1 RBI

Another big day for Duran at the top of this lineup, and now the seventh round pick is hitting .327/.389/.551 to start his professional career. I’m in.

Player of the Day: This was a terribly boring day for the Red Sox farm system, but Hildemaro Requena certainly deserves a shoutout here. Like I said, he’s been mostly bad this year, but he is young and has been shuttling back and forth between Greenville and Salem. There’s probably not much here, but maybe a consistent role could help him.
