The Red Sox (55-27) roll into the Bronx tonight (7:10 p.m., NESN, MLBN out-of-market) to face the big, bad second-place Yankees (52-26) in a series the results of which will linger through October, and of which you can read a preview here.
About tonight’s game: Eduardo Rodriguez returns to Yankee Stadium for the first time since he silenced the Yanks on a wet night in probably his best performance of the season. Last time out he nibbled only to find himself getting chewed, but in that start he went after every New York hitter until the deed was done. We could use that guy tonight. He’ll square off against your grandfather, C.C. Sabathia, who’s good again.
Steve Pearce makes his Red Sox debut at first base and batting cleanup, with Mitch Moreland sitting against the lefty. For the Yankees, they have a pair of Aarons leading off, just not the brothers that have the sibling home run crown, Hank and Tommy. In that case it’s a last name, too. Anyhow.
About last night’s game: Brian Johnson was pretty good, Jackie Bradley Jr. was on fire at the plate and in the field (see below) and Craig Kimbrel whiffed Mike Trout to end the game 4-2, and sweep the season series. Read the recap here.
Forecast: I’m not even gonna look it up. It’s gonna be in the high 70s and clear. Perfect weather.
Today’s reading: Drellich tries to scare you re: the Yankees. DON’T BELIEVE HIM!!!
